Como al salir del sol se muestra el cielo
más claro y más alegre y más gozoso,
y como en el venir de abril hermoso
de flores se matiza y lustra el suelo,

tal, movido por vos de honesto celo,
se muestra ufano el mundo, deseoso
de veros ya llegar al glorioso
término (a) que llegó el único abuelo.

Sólo en veros salir, sólo del nombre
de Gonzalo Hernández tiene espanto
cuanto ciñe Apenín, Adria y Tirreno.

¿Cuál será, pues, señor, que no se asombre
viéndoos volver con el honrado manto
de palmas, de trofeos, de glorias lleno?
