Remedio incierto que en el alma cría
la ponzoña que da vida al tormento,
madrastra del cuitado sufrimiento,
de nuestros años robadora arpía;

obscura luz que por tinieblas guía,
falso esfuerzo del loco pensamiento,
dificultoso bien del sentimiento,
peligroso manjar de la porfía;

sierpe fiera con rostro de doncella,
fuego que blandamente nos consume,
jarabe dulce de alargar los males,

bien do el daño mayor se anida y sella.
¿Quién será tal que tus maldades sume?
¡Oh mísera esperanza de mortales!
