Ni la fuerza del mal, ¡oh Cariteo!,
ni estar lejos del bien desposeído,
ni la mente, verdugo del sentido
cuando más apretada es del deseo,
atormenta tu alma, a lo que creo,
tanto, aunque tanto lo has encarecido,
que si te acuerdas quién la causa ha sido
no juzgues tu llorar por caso feo.
Consuélate, ¡oh pastor tan venturoso!,
pues que estás del amor solas las flores
y sólo el ser ausente te atormenta.
Déjame a mí llorar, que en los amores
un solo recelar fiero, rabioso,
hace que los demás apenas sienta.
