Alma del alma mía, ardor más vivo,
extremo de beldad única y rara,
ejemplo de valor por quien tan cara
la vida me es, de que antes era esquivo.
Fuera el decir cómo el concepto altivo
¡oh mi musa cruel!, menos avara
viérades, si en el mundo se os mostrara
cuanto de vos dentro del alma escribo.
Mas, ¿qué puedo hacer si amor me inspira?:
cantar vuestro valor alto y divino
al son de esta vulgar, rústica lira.
No saber más mis versos de un camino:
esto me dicta aquel que a amar me tira,
por pensada elección, no por destino.
