Leandro que de amor en fuego ardía,
puesto que a su deseo contrastaba
el fortunoso mar que no cesaba,
nadando a su pesar, pasar quería.

Mas viendo ya que el fin de su osadía
a la rabiosa muerte lo tiraba,
mirando aquella torre donde estaba
Hero, a las fieras ondas se volvía;

a las cuales con ansia enamorada
dijo: «Pues aplacar furor divino
enamorado ardor no puede nada,

dejadme al fin llegar de este camino
pues poco ha de tardar, y a la tornada
secutad vuestra saña y mi destino.»
