Lavinio, si el hallarme el alma ajena
del ardor en que había hábito hecho,
te hace de mi fe mal satisfecho,
sin saber la ocasión que el hado ordena,

la historia de disculpa y razón llena,
que me tiene ya en lágrimas deshecho,
podrás leer, do hallarás que el pecho
el objeto mudó, mas no la pena.

Baste, pues, un recaudo, el más honrado:
la más justa ocasión para mudarme
que pudo un corazón mudar cuidado.

Sola una razón hay para culparme:
que las alas de bajo vuelo usado
no debieran tan alto levantarme.
