Esta guirnalda de silvestres flores,
de simple mano rústica compuesta
en los bosques de Arcadia, aquí fue puesta
en honra del cantar de los pastores,

a los cuales, si Amor en sus amores
quiere jamás negar demanda honesta,
ruego, si bien el don tan bajo cuesta,
pueda este olmo gozar de mis sudores.

Que si algún tiempo con más docta mano
las acierto a tejer como maestro,
guardando a los pasados el decoro,

espero, y mi esperar no será en vano,
que el nombre pastoral del siglo nuestro
será tal cual fue ya en la Edad del Oro.
