«¿Quién yace muerto aquí?» «Pero Mexía.»
«¿Pero Mexía es muerto?» «Antes muriendo
comenzó ahora a vivir, porque viviendo
fuera de do hora vive, no vivía.»
«¿Fue caballero?» «Sí.» «¿Y en qué entendía?»
«Ora el cielo, ora el mar, iba midiendo,
ora de Carlo Máximo escribiendo
la fama de ambos, que inmortal hacía.»
«Pues si lloró Alexandre las memorias
famosas que de Aquile escribió Homero,
¿cómo no llora César tan gran falta?»
«Porque lo que escribió de sus historias
basta para dar fe en el fin postrero
de lo que no alcanzó pluma tan alta.»
