Si puede honrar una famosa muerte
la más infame y deshonrada vida,
si la muerte con honra recibida
en gloria del que muere se convierte,

venturoso lacayo, a quien la suerte
concedió tanto bien, tal homicida,
duélate que haya sido en su venida,
presurosa al pasar, pero no fuerte.

¡Morir debajo un peso tan hermoso,
que hace feo al que sostuvo Atlante!
¿Cuál vida debe ser tan estimada?

¡Ójala fuera yo tan venturoso!
Tan dulce muerte en un mísero amante
fuera con más razón bien empleada.
