Mientra el fiero dolor de su tormento
con mayor soledad Vandalio llora,
con voz de su morir denunciadora
dijo triste, lloroso y descontento:
«¡Oh gloria de estas selvas y ornamento,
sombras que tanto ardor templáis agora!,
¡oh tú, Eco, perpetua habitadora
del bosque que este llanto escucha atento!,
quédese par vos solas guardado
mi tan secreto bien, mi buena suerte,
que tanto me costo por no mostralle.
Y si tanto favor me niega el hado,
ya que alguno queráis contar mi muerte,
dígase sólo el mal, el bien se calle.»
