Ved si el Amor, señora, es cauteloso,
ved qué desigualdad guarda en sus fueros,
que mi daño mayor nace de veros
y de no os ver un mal más peligroso.
Mirándoos, siento el alma en un rabioso
deseo que jamás puedo moveros;
no viéndoos aquella ansia de quereros
me hace el desear más trabajoso;
no viéndoos, se enflaquece el sufrimiento;
en viéndoos, me desmayo y acobardo
y a los pies del dolor queda el sentido.
Ved, pues, si es nueva suerte de tormento:
que el peligro mayor de que me guardo
es el bien que con más congoja pido.
