Después que a César el traidor de Egipto
dio la cabeza que el peor quería,
encubriendo las muestras de alegría,
en público lloró, como está escrito.

Y Aníbal, cuando al imperio aflito
vio que Fortuna desfavorecía,
rióse entre la gente que plañía,
encubriendo un dolor que era infinito.

Así a veces el ánimo, cualquiera
pasión que siente, so contrario manto
cubre con vista alegre o lastimera;

por do, si alguna vez, yo río o canto,
es por querer, con el placer de fuera,
encubrir mi secreto y triste llanto.
