Apenas el aurora había mostrado
las flores que en la noche había escondido,
cuando un pastor, de amor entristecido,
penoso estaba a un árbol arrimado.
Hablando con su hato y su cayado,
alzó con ronca voz un gran gemido,
diciendo: «¿Para qué dejas perdido
el cuerpo, pues el alma me has llevado,
pastora desleal? ¿En qué pusiste
el querer que con palabras me mostraste
en pago del amor que me ofreciste?
¿Por qué tan sin razón, di, me trocaste?
Pues otro mayor bien no pretendiste
que verme muerto aquí do me dejaste».
