Amor me dijo en la mi edad primera:
«Seguirás en amar siempre el extremo,
que en tempestuoso mar, sin velo o remo,
va salvo de peligro el que en mí espera».

Sin recelo le di fe tan entera
cuanto muestra la llama en que me quemo,
y sin temor entré donde ahora temo
lo que, no le creyendo, no temiera.

Que ni callar me vale ni quejarme,
ni puede sufrimiento que es humano,
sostener tal pasión ni padecella;

pues ni quiere que viva ni acabarme,
ni aprovecha dejarme ya en su mano,
ni puedo, aunque procuro, salir de ella.
