Como vemos que un río mansamente
por do no halla estorbo, sin sonido,
sigue su natural curso seguido,
tal que aun apenas murmurar se siente;

pero si topa algún inconveniente
rompe con fuerza y pasa con ruido,
tanto que de muy lejos es sentido
el alto y gran rumor de la corriente:

por sosegado curso semejante
fueron un tiempo mis alegres días,
sin que queja o pasión de mí se oyese;

mas como se me puso amor delante,
la gran corriente de las ansias mías
fue fuerza que en el mundo se sintiese.
