Lavinio, al comenzar de mi cuidado,
vi que a mi perdición iba derecho,
pero juzgué tal daño por provecho,
y así lo hubieras tú también juzgado;

por do el amonestarme es excusado,
que, aunque me pone ausencia en gran estrecho,
lo que piensas que sufro a mi despecho,
contento lo padezco y de mi agrado.

Que si Amor de este mal quiere que muera,
no me podrá quitar que esto no sea
remedio de mis males, y el más sano;

porque, tras haber visto a Galatea,
¿qué bien podrá igualarse al que perdiera
en no padecer muerte de su mano?
