Pareciéndome flores los abrojos,
teniendo por atajo un gran rodeo,
corrí tras la esperanza y el deseo,
dejada la razón por los antojos;
mas la miseria humana y sus enojos
me mostraron en fin mi devaneo
de suerte que, no viendo, ahora veo,
que, yendo a despeñarme, abrí los ojos.
Desde entonces quedé considerando
de cuán débil materia era el cimiento
donde fundé mil pensamientos vanos;
y esfuerza mi flaqueza, procurando
seguir con obras al entendimiento,
mas, señor don Martín, somos humanos.
