The Story of Ahiqar in its Syriac and Arabic Tradition

The Story of Ahiqar in its Syriac and Arabic Tradition is a scholarly research project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and jointly hosted by the Faculty of Theology and the Göttingen State and University Library at the University of Göttingen. The project investigates the transmission, adaptation, and reception of the Story of Ahiqar, a wisdom narrative of ancient Near Eastern origin, within its Syriac and Arabic manuscript traditions. By systematically cataloguing and analyzing textual witnesses, the project seeks to illuminate the intercultural dynamics of translation, interpretation, and moral instruction across linguistic and religious boundaries.

Its digital corpus and critical resources are made publicly accessible through the TextGrid Repository, contributing to the broader study of Semitic philology, textual history, and cross‑cultural wisdom literature.
