- XXXIV -
El exceso de nuestras ambiciones
que a sojuzgarlo todo se abalanza,
cuando le desengaña la tardanza
a dominar se vuelve las pasiones.
Y despreciando vanas pretensiones
a límite reduce la esperanza,
mortifica la ciega confianza,
y a la Virtud dirige las acciones.
Pues debe con el arte socorrerse
siendo dificultoso de extinguirle,
cultívele solícito cuidado.
Quien no pudo vencer, pueda vencerse,
quien no pudo adquirir, sepa medirle,
y quien no fue dichoso, sea templado.
