Hasta que mueres tú, joven valiente,
el morir y el rendirse fue una cosa;
ya dos serán, pues muere y no reposa
ese primer cadáver y viviente.

Tan sólo tú, después de tu occidente,
dejas la Parca atenta y oficiosa
tan suspensa que ignora, temerosa,
si ella o tú padecéis el accidente.

¿A quién (pregunto yo) más que la vida
duró el valor? ¿Quién mereció difunto?
¿O fue envidiado cuando polvo incierto?

¡Oh prevención del hado nunca oída,
pues te reserva con tan nuevo asunto
ser inmortal para después de muerto!
