Recoge el temerario lino alado,
Palinuro, que miro el mar furioso,
y agravio hará (que le hace el poderoso)
sólo de verte a tu defensa armado.
Calle el remo, aún el voto esté callado,
que es trabajar estar a tiempo ocioso.
Sobra el afán al que ha de ser dichoso,
pues que si lo ha de ser por olvidado.
Discreto es sacrificio el rendimiento;
donde no puede obrar la resistencia,
el furor estorbado dura y crece.
Que no hicieron los cielos la violencia
tan absoluta -y más si la arma el viento-
que no la vence al fin quien la obedece.
