Como enfermo que anhela en lecho ardiente
alcanzar con excesos mejoría,
y su engaño no más, o su porfía,
le alivia, con que crece el accidente;

y como el ciervo, que la flecha siente,
huye en vano de sí la noche y día,
para ver si le dan lisonja fría
médicas ondas de templada fuente:

tal, esclavo de amor, herido el pecho,
buscaba yo reparo en el ausencia;
busqué la fuente contra el dardo esquivo.

Hizo después amor, a mi despecho,
lo que hace el exceso en la dolencia
y el señor con esclavo fugitivo.
