Como el hombre que huelga de soñar,
y nace su holganza de locura,
me viene a mí con este imaginar;
que no hay en mi dolencia mejor cura.
Puso amor en mi mano mi ventura,
mas puso lo peor, pues el penar
me hace por razón desvariar,
como el que viendo, vive en noche oscura.
Veo venir el mal, no sé huir;
escojo lo peor cuando es llegado,
cualquier tiempo me estorba la jornada.
¿Qué puedo yo esperar del porvenir,
si el pasado es mejor, por ser pasado?
Que en mi sangre es mejor lo que no es nada.
