Un claro ingenio, un vivo entendimiento,
un sentido profundo, un raro aviso,
una varia lección y un decir liso,
cual, señor Soto, en vuestros versos siento;
Pocas veces el claro firmamento
a los mortales concederlos quiso,
y con razón aquel pastor de Anfriso
os llama para algún notable intento;
porque de vuestro ingenio e invención
piensa hacer industria por do pueda
subir la tosca rima a perfección.
Tenga la Parca el hilo, y en su rueda
Ríjase la fortuna por razón;
que puesto donde estáis, muy poco os queda.
