Tiéneme el agua de los ojos ciego,
del corazón el fuego me maltrata,
cada cual de los dos por sí me mata,
mas nunca al fin de aquesta muerte llego.
Parte consume de aquesta agua el fuego,
y parte de este fuego el agua mata,
lo que el uno deshace y desbarata,
el otro torna y le renueva luego.
El uno vive cuando el otro muere,
yo con entrambos muero y vivo junto,
¡ay gran dolor! ¡ay desigual ventura!
Por sí cada cual darme muerte quiere,
y impedidos el uno y otro, al punto
la vida me renuevan triste y dura.
