Vuela y cerca la lumbre y no reposa,
y huye y vuelve, a su beldad rendida,
figura simple suya, y encendida
siente que fue a su muerte presurosa;

mas yo, alegre en mi luz maravillosa,
a consagrar osando voy mi vida,
que espera, de su bello ardor vencida,
o perderse o cobrarse venturosa.

Amor, que en mí engrandece su memoria,
entibia mi esperanza en lento engaño
y en llama ingrata ufano me consumo.

Cuidé (¡tal fue mi mal!) ganar la gloria
del bien que vi, y al fin hallo en mi daño
que sólo de mi incendio resta el humo.
