La fría falda y cumbre de Pierene,
que parte al franco y al osado ibero,
cuando hiela desierto Aquilón fiero
tanta copia de nieve no sostiene,

cuanto hielo en mi pecho el temor tiene
cuando aparta sus rayos mi lucero,
y retraído su esplendor primero,
de avivarme en su bella luz se abstiene.

Libia arenosa, aunque el ardor presente
del sol te abrasa, ni del hielo mío
el rigor sientes, perderás la fama;

que mayo fuego me encendió este ausente
corazón; mas en mí ya acaba el frío
el vigor, y deshace de su llama.
