¿Podrá ser que este afán indigno acabe,
y que de mi debida gloria cobre
un bien pequeño, y en mi mal me sobre
razón con que tu nombre Amor, alabe?

Gran bien te pido, pero en mi bien cabe;
mas cuando tu favor en mí más obre,
la esperanza se halla ya tan pobre,
que ni gozarlo puede ya, ni sabe.

Si no valgo este bien, ¿a cuánto aguarda
tu crueldad, que su furor no harta
en lo que más me vale y me disculpa?

O muerte o vida luego, que si tarda
cualquiera, y tu dudanza no se aparta,
será la dilación la mayor culpa.
