Soberbio Tajo, que en la gran corriente
entrabas de Neptuno impetuoso,
¿por qué con tardo paso y temeroso
vas humilde abatiendo tu creciente?

Si al fiero Luco osado alza la frente,
domador de tu ejército famoso,
no debes tú por eso estar medroso,
ni el furor libio recelar presente;

que en tu favor el Ebro grande, el Duero
y el sacro ondoso Betis a porfía
el valor juntarán, la fuerza y arte.

Luego verás al númida guerrero
perder roto el orgullo y la osadía,
y cautivo humillado venerarte.
