Si deseáis que muera a vuestra mano,
¿por qué dais vida a un corazón abierto?
es crueldad vengar en cuerpo muerto,
culpa, si la hay, de un simple error liviano.
Si con saña buscáis de Amor tirano
dolor eterno a un mísero desierto,
¿por qué hacéis ¡oh extraño desconcierto!
que mengue, y mi pasión fallezca en vano?
Poco es esto si debo yo, Luz mía,
que mis entrañas corte el hierro y parta,
y me acabe el desdén que el mal me ha hecho.
Más que mis esperanzas y alegría
rompa quien tanto bien, cruel, me aparta,
¿cómo sufre y no estalla un tierno pecho?
