Alzo el cansado paso, y a la cumbre,
sufriendo encima esta pesada carga,
pruebo llegar; mas la distancia larga
me ofende, y más la grave pesadumbre.

Bien que me esfuerza una pequeña lumbre
que veo lejos; pero no descarga
esto mi afán penoso, antes alarga
de mi prolijo error la incertidumbre.

Con el peso abrazado desfallezco;
que mi obstinada afrenta no consiente
que desampare ya esta empresa mía.

Luchando con el mal, pruebo, y me ofrezco
al peligro, esperando ver presente
alegre en tantos tristes algún día.
