Si en mano del Amor yo puse el freno
de esta mi voluntad, no bien sujeta,
¿De qué me espanto pues que se prometa
traerme tan rendido y siempre ajeno?
Tarde llego al remedio; que el veneno
cruel destempla el pecho con secreta
virtud; no es justo ya en edad perfecta
andar lleno de afán, de afrenta lleno.
Pueda abrir la razón la niebla oscura,
y ose romper por esta selva espesa,
que mil buenos deseos embaraza.
Dura resolución, mas bien segura;
que quien teme el trabajo, y lento cesa,
el premio de la gloria en vano abraza.
