Corre soberbio al mar del llanto mío,
Betis claro, sagrado honor de ríos,
y no acaben mis grandes desvaríos
donde se acaba en él tu grande río;

antes oigan mi afán y desvarío
entre el fuego y rigor de hielos fríos,
y se conduelen de los males míos
Libia ardiente y desnudo Islando frío;

y el Indo, que primero ve la aurora,
y el otro que más tarde alumbra Apolo,
hagan memoria eterna de mis daños;

y tú lamenta esta postrera hora
en que muero, de bien ausente y solo,
rico de pensamientos, pobre de años.
