Con triste voz ¡oh triste musa! suena
de estos excelsos héroes la memoria,
de quien recela el hado la victoria
y las mustias exequias mustia ordena.
Porque puede cantar, si en tanta pena
da lugar el dolor, la ingrata historia,
es parte en tanto en honra suya y gloria
el jacinto, amaranto y azucena.
Vos, no rendidas almas generosas,
con desigual asedio y dura suerte
en la ribera Libia, que el mar baña,
al cielo id veneradas, id dichosas;
que no osará negar soberbia muerte
que sois eterna luz y prez de España.
