La muerte pido, un corazón amante
vos me entregáis, y me dejáis ausente
de las bellas lazadas de oro ardiente
y del sereno y celestial semblante.

¿Por qué no temo pues el mal instante,
aunque sus rayos Marte ya clemente
contraiga, si el dolor que está presente
cansa el pecho en sus lástimas constante?

Este afán no esperado, esta partida
el errante furor enciende fiero,
no el trabajo cruel de enferma suerte.

Tal me hallo en la ausencia aborrecida,
que el dado corazón fue triste agüero
al duro cierto riesgo de la muerte.
