Fue gloria de mi alto pensamiento
osar y ver vuestra beldad serena,
y de firmeza arder mi alma llena,
desesperando el fin de su tormento.
Si como mereció mi atrevimiento
la honra y el valor de tanta pena,
consintiera el cruel que me enajena
no ofenderos el bien del mal que siento,
pensara merecer con la fe mía
nombre de vuestro; mas a tanta alteza
la humilde mortal suerte no conviene.
Mas, ya que no vos canse mi osadía,
no pretendo consuelo a mi tristeza,
sino que consintáis que por vos pene.
