- XXII -

Inmenso ardor de eterna hermosura
en vuestra dulce faz se me aparece,
y en mis entrañas arde y siempre crece
con inmortal incendio virtud pura.
Con alteza y valor vuestra figura
sin igual en mi alma resplandece,
y pues ufana sufre, bien merece
algún corto favor de su ventura.
No puede ser mayor vuestra belleza,
y no es ya justo que ceguéis mis ojos,
su flaca luz gastando en tanto fuego;
que si al pecho mostráis vuestra grandeza,
muriendo en llama no daré despojos,
los que pudiera dar viviendo ciego.
