- XLV -
Hurtadas glorias de esperanza incierta,
vanos efectos, días mal gastados
dieron triste principio a mis cuidados
y ocasión a mis lástimas abierta.
De mi favor y mi alegría cierta
los pasos fueron súbito cortados,
y fueron mis dolores renovados
con la memoria de mi gloria muerta.
Ahora queda inútil esperanza,
frío, calor, temor, suspiro y llanto,
y sólo amor en mi engañada suerte.
No deseo tornar en confianza;
que no hay corazón que sufra tanto,
ni aun bien que me defienda de la muerte.
