Del mar las ondas quebrantarse vía
en las desnudas peñas, desde el puerto;
y en conflicto las naves que el desierto
Bóreas, bramando con furor, batía,
cuando gozoso de la suerte mía,
aunque afligido del naufragio cierto,
dije: no cortará del Ponto incierto
jamás mi nave la temida vía.
¡Mas, ay triste, que apena se presenta
de mi fingido bien una esperanza
cuando las velas tiendo sin recelo!
Vuelo cual rayo, y súbita tormenta
me niega la salud y la bonanza,
y en negra sombra cubre todo el cielo.
