Betis, que en este tiempo solo y frío
escuchas mi dolor, del hondo asiento,
acoge en tu quieto movimiento
los últimos suspiros que yo envío;

y, si tiene valor tu sacro río,
dame que en árbol verde mi tormento
lamente transformado, que ya siento
débil la voz, cual cisne, al canto mío;

porque con nuevas ramas tu corriente
cercaré coronando, y destilado
iré en tu luengo curso y extendido;

que mi luz ceñirá su bella frente
de mis hojas, o en llanto desatado,
seré en sus blancas manos recogido.
