Si algo puedo cuidar que vos ofenda,
muera en ausencia vuestra perseguido,
y en ciego engaño y confusión perdido,
a remediar mi daño nunca atienda;

y jamás la esperanza me defienda
de ese injusto desdén y tibio olvido;
y cuando más me importe ser oído,
tarde la voz de mi dolor se entienda.

Pero si no da entrada el pensamiento
a cosa que no sea vuestra gloria,
y de cuanto es ajeno se desvía,

¿por qué negáis, ingrata a mi tormento,
que se ufane mi mal con la memoria
de ser la causa vos, Estrella mía?
