No espero más de Faetón luciente
ni de la blanca Cintia noche o día;
discurra Iperión por otra vía,
y Properina ocupe el Oriente;

porque los dulces rayos de la frente
que el cielo de la Estrella ilustran mía,
son mi Apolo y mi Delia, cierta guía
en la oscura tiniebla y luz presente.

En tanta gloria ofende mi flaqueza;
que tolerar no puedo en ella atento,
cual águila, el ardor de su belleza.

Dichoso yo sí, como el gran deseo
de cegar en la causa del tormento,
Argos fuera tal vez, después Fineo.
