El sátiro que el fuego vio primero,
en su alegre esplendor embebecido,
llegó a tocar, y conoció, encendido
que era cuanto hermoso, ardiente y fiero.
Yo, que la luz vi, mísero, en quien muero,
vuelto llama, engañado y ofrecido
a mi dolor, no en llanto convertido,
cuidé triste acabar, como ya espero.
Belleza y claridad nunca antes vista
dieron principio al mal de mi deseo,
dura pena y afán a un duro pecho.
Padezco el dulce engaño de la vista;
mas, pues me pierdo al fin con cuanto veo,
¿Cómo todo ceniza no estoy hecho?
