No por Apolo y Marte un nuevo Marte
eres o un nuevo Apolo, mas Apolo
y Marte por ti son, pues de ti sólo
una y otra deidad reciben parte.

¿Quién luego dejará de consagrarte,
por cuanto ciñe el mar y alcanza Eolo,
su espada y lira -¡oh, luz de nuestro polo-
y en mil arcos de gloria levantarte?

Gonzalo felicísimo, recibe
este cayado en don y esta mi flauta
y con ellos la vida juntamente,

porque si voluntad blanda concibe
en ti -¡qué mayor bien?- mi musa incauta,
mi musa sonará de gente en gente.
