Sin poderse alegrar de cosa alguna,
de envidia, de ira y rabia ardiendo el pecho,
mirando la ocasión de su despecho,
en brazos de Endimión decía la Luna:
«¡Ah, dichosa Amarílida!, fortuna
que el más fiel pastor siervo te ha hecho
te asegura del mal, de quien sospecho
que si no tú, escapar puede ninguna.
Tú sola vivirás leda y contenta,
de aquel disimular de amor segura,
que en los hombres sin fe se anida y sella.»
Endimión, que oyendo esto se afrenta,
responde así: «Hizo igual ventura
a la fe del pastor, la beldad de ella.»
