Si así durase el sol sereno cuanto
dura la noche tenebrosa, obscura,
si en medio del placer mi desventura
no transformase el gozo en triste llanto,
¿cuál vida podría ser alegre tanto,
cuál mal que iguale al bien de tal ventura,
cuál remedio mayor de mi tristura
que mudar en alegre el triste canto?
En la gloria mayor de mi tormento
voy por tranquilo mar ledo cantando,
mientra alegres se muestran vuestros ojos.
Mas, ¡ay!, que cuando más, más gloria siento,
se me deshace el bien considerando
cuál me suelen parar vuestros enojos.
