¡Temor desventurado y trabajoso,
trabajoso temor desventurado!
quien supiese mostrar de ti un traslado
bien se podría llamar pintor famoso;

quien tu desasosiego sospechoso,
tu recelar, tus bascas, tu cuidado,
con palabras pintase, habría pintado
lo que es, aunque a pensar, dificultoso.

Eres sin proporción incomparable,
eres mal que se siente y no se entiende,
sueño que el alma aduerme y la desvela;

eres fuego infernal, intolerable,
hielo que de un rabioso ardor enciende,
ardor que de un mortal hielo nos hiela.
