Mientras el fiero león, fogoso, ardiente,
con furioso calor nos mueve guerra,
mientras la madre de Aristeo atierra
los árboles, las plantas, la simiente,

entre altos montes de soberbia gente,
que al helvecio feroz el paso cierra,
me hallo en otro clima, en otra tierra
de la mi cara patria diferente.

Allá Febo no tiene hora reparo;
acá muestra mudar orden del cielo,
y con helada nieve nos castiga.

Entre estas diferencias se ve claro
cuál es mi mal, pues ardo en medio el hielo
y en el fuego se hiela mi enemiga.
