¡Ay, qué plazo tan largo y tan extraño,
ay, qué término luengo y enojoso,
ay, qué tiempo prolijo y trabajoso,
ay, qué tardío remedio a tan gran daño!

¡Ay, salud perezosa y con engaño,
ay, cruel dilatar tan peligroso,
ay, pesado esperar triste y forzoso
ay, qué día mayor que el mayor año!

Si el sol para el extraño nacimiento
del hijo de Alcumena anduvo errando,
en una dos jornadas convirtiendo,

¿por qué no pasa agora en un momento
ésta que tanto bien va dilatando,
o hace que la pase yo durmiendo?
