Por repararse de una gran tormenta
con que el cielo una noche amenazaba,
debajo de un alto olmo suspiraba
temeroso Vandalio en tal afrenta.
No que con las ovejas tenga cuenta,
ni el temor de los lobos recelaba;
antes un ruiseñor que allí cantaba,
la historia de su mal le representa.
Piadoso, (a) la avecilla enamorada
dijo: «¿Qué así te afliges y cantando
muestras la tempestad tener en nada?
¿Qué haremos los dos, pues que llorando,
nuestro triste cantar tan poco agrada?»
«¿Qué -dijo el ruiseñor- Morir amando.»
